Online PDF editor

Free online PDF editor: change existing text line by line, annotate, highlight and sign a PDF in your browser. Your file never leaves this device.

Good to know

  • Existing text is edited one line at a time. An edit covers the original line and draws the new text on top; the original text stays in the file underneath, so this is not redaction and must not be used to hide information.
  • Replacement text uses the closest of Helvetica, Times, Courier or six bundled open fonts (Inter, Source Sans 3, Open Sans, Roboto, Lato, Noto Sans), not the document’s own font. Characters a font lacks, such as ₹, are set in Noto Sans.
  • Rotated or vertical text, and text on turned pages, is read-only. Paragraphs do not reflow and new text boxes are added as annotations.
  • Password-protected PDFs open with their password. The edited copy is saved without a password or permission restrictions.
  • Download writes a new file. Existing form fields and bookmarks are not carried over yet.

Frequently asked questions

Is MakeFilesEasy a free online PDF editor?
Yes. This free online PDF editor runs in your browser with no account and no payment. Open a file, mark it up, and download the result.
Does this PDF editor upload my files?
No. The browser reads the PDF with the File API and keeps it in memory. MakeFilesEasy is static files on a CDN; there is no upload API.
Can I edit a PDF online without creating an account?
Yes. There is no sign-up. Choose a PDF from disk, add text, highlights, shapes or a signature, then download. Close the tab and the file is gone from memory.
Can I edit existing text in a PDF?
Yes, one line at a time. Choose "Edit existing text", click a line and type the replacement. The new text is drawn over a cover in the page’s background colour, so the original stays in the file underneath. It is a visual change, not redaction.
Can I edit a password-protected PDF?
Yes, if you know its password. It is used only in this tab to open the file. Many bank statements carry only an owner password and open without one. The edited copy is saved unencrypted.
Can I sign a PDF in my browser?
Yes. Draw a signature on the pad, place it on the page, and download. The signature is stored as vector strokes, not an uploaded image.
