Repair a damaged PDF

Repair a damaged PDF in your browser. The file is rebuilt with a fresh structure; if that fails, readable pages are recovered as images. Nothing is uploaded.

Good to know

  • First pass: the document is re-read leniently and written with a clean cross-reference table, keeping text and quality.
  • If that fails, PDF.js recovers whatever pages it can draw and saves them as images (text is then not selectable).
  • Files that are truncated badly enough may not be recoverable at all.

Frequently asked questions

Can a corrupt PDF be fixed?
Often. Many "damaged" files only have a broken index or a few bad objects, which a rebuild fixes. Badly truncated files may lose pages.
Is my file uploaded to repair it?
No. Both repair methods run in this tab.
